Do you want a Newfoundland puppy?
They are adorable, and when you pick them up between 9 and 12 weeks old you can actually pick them up! But that won’t last long – at over 100 pounds when fully grown, it is rare for anyone to pick up a Newfoundland dog by themselves, so do your research and know what lies ahead.
A look at the breed standard will tell you what the Newfoundland should look like as an adult dog and what their temperament should be like.
Be aware the breed standard in Canada is not exactly the same as in the United States. The Newfoundland Club of America has information for potential puppy buyers that includes the American breed standard.
I can say it no better than my friends and colleagues at Pattes Douces and Glenauldyn Newfoundlands who have versions of an adapted piece entitled: “Don’t Buy a Newfoundland”. If you finish that article, and have looked at the information provided by the Newfoundland dog clubs AND you still want a Newfoundland puppy, then contact us!
